Officer loses life to motorcycle accident in Tennessee

Motorcycles can be dangerous if not used carefully and may result in injury or loss of life. This can be the case even when things are carefully planned out and executed. A member of our community in Dickson, Tennessee, was unfortunate enough to have just that happen to him last Saturday night.

The officer had been serving as a member of the Tennessee Highway Patrol for seven years at the time of his death. He  lost his life in the line of duty while driving a motorcycle as part of a motorcade that was organized to usher a group of pilots to an air show in Smyrna Tennessee. He and another patrol officer participating in the motorcade collided on Sam Ridley Parkway. The motorcycle accident injured both officers, costing one his life.

Members of the patrol officer's family completed funeral arrangements and organized a visitation to honor him that was held on Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm. Visitors gathered to pay their respects at Taylor Funeral Home. The funeral for the motorcycle accident victim was held Thursday morning at 10 am at the Walnut Street Church of Christ. The officer's family also organized a memorial service to celebrate the officer's life immediately following the funeral service. The memorial service was also conducted at the Walnut Street Church of Christ.

The patrol officer's family has requested that contributions be made to the Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. organization in lieu of flowers. Monetary donations can be made directly to the organization in the patrol officer's name. The highway patrol officer was buried at Cumberland Furnace Cemetery in Tennessee. Members from a number of law enforcement organizations served as pallbearers during the burial service and the honor guard for the Tennessee Highway Patrol offered full honors as the patrolman was laid to final rest.
