Car accident in Knoxville leads to bizarre chase

A Kentucky woman was lucky to emerge unscathed following a hit-and-run accident that took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, last week. A witness reported that the car accident took place when a male driver struck a 2011 Audi Q5 on Kingston Pike. The driver then got out of his truck to inspect the damage before proceeding to drive away. The witness immediately pursued the hit-and-run perpetrator and called 911 to alert emergency personnel of the incident. The witness continued his pursuit while officers were on their way.

Police officers have confirmed that the at-fault driver ignored the witness's attempts to stop him. Eventually, the man's pickup truck overheated and when he attempted to flee on foot, the witness was able to finally stop him with the use of pepper spray. Police arrived on the scene and soon arrested the man. He was later charged with driving under the influence, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid. He also faces charges of driving without insurance, disorderly conduct, and violation of the implied consent law.

Officers were thankful for the aid of the "good Samaritan" and reminded people that if they are a witness to an accident, important information such as, what the vehicle looked like, a license plate number and even what direction the vehicle drove can be very useful in capturing the suspect. Although they added that it is always important to use good judgment and ensure your own safety first.

The 36 year old female victim in the hit-and-run accident thankfully came through the accident without injuries. However, she did suffer damage to her vehicle and emotional distress. Victims of similar collisions may not fare so well; hit-and-run vehicle accidents with injuries are relatively common in the Knoxville area. People who are victim to hit-and-run car accidents may be entitled to compensation that can help cover the cost of vehicle repair, injury, pain and suffering or lost wages.
