Drunk driving accident proves tragic for Tennessee mother-to-be

Drunk driving has tragic consequences far too often on American roadways. One Tennessee mother believes that a drunk driver caused the death of the unborn baby. The woman was just weeks away from giving birth when the alleged drunk driving car accident took place.

The mother-to-be was parked when a 34-year-old woman was said to have rear-ended her vehicle. The allegedly drunk driver reportedly first hit a pole before striking the pregnant woman's vehicle. She then sped away after the collision. Now, due to another person's allegedly negligent actions, the mom-to-be was forced to bury her baby rather than celebrating her little boy's arrival.

What makes this particular case potentially more devastating is the fact that women who caused the accident has driven under the influence before, according to authorities. This incident apparently marks the woman's third DUI charge -- and reportedly the sixth time she has been caught driving with a revoked license. Police are now said to be waiting for the results of an autopsy on the stillborn baby to determine whether vehicular homicide charges will be filed.

Tennessee readers who have lost loved ones due to the negligent and perhaps reckless actions of others can no doubt understand this expectant mother's pain. What should have been a joyous moment in her life turned to unimaginable tragedy from what police assert was a drunk driving accident. As she struggles to cope with her grief, she and her husband may assess their rights under state law to pursue civil action against the allegedly drunk driver. A successful claim may help publicize how an individual's apparent decision to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking can inexorably alter the lives of innocent people.
