A woman convicted of driving under the influence in Tennessee has been sentenced recently for the death of a 4-year-old boy and his grandfather. She was sentenced to 50 years in prison with an option for parole in 15 years. The collision also left another man paralyzed, and two families devastated. The 45-year-old woman has had repeated run-ins with the law involving DUI and driving on a revoked license and may now face additional personal injury claims against her.

Unemployment and Social Security Disability Benefits

Social Security Disability or SSI claimants often wonder whether they can receive unemployment and still apply for and be awarded Social Security Disability. A person receiving unemployment must have affirmed that he is able to work and, often, that he is actively seeking work. The question then becomes is whether the claimant's statement about his ability to work is an automatic bar to the receipt of disability benefits.

Failure to obey traffic signals leads to 3 injuries in Knoxville

October has already seen injurious car accidents in the Knoxville area. One recent car accident, said to have been caused by one driver's failure to obey traffic signals, resulted in injuries to three people. According to reports, the three were taken to a local Knoxville hospital after a woman driving a car smashed into the side of a van carrying passengers from the Cerebral Palsy Center. The injuries, according to initial reports, did not seem to be life-threatening.

Tennessee truck accident kills TDOT worker, injures patrolman

A tragic truck accident happened recently on a Tennessee highway and involved two trucks, one from TDOT. Police believe that the driver of a semi-tractor trailer truck crashed into the back of a parked TDOT truck, beginning the fatal truck accident. The impact caused the trucks to slam first into a pedestrian TDOT worker, then into a highway patrol vehicle as well in this horrific crash. The patrol officer was injured, and both the TDOT worker and the truck driver were killed.

Driver negligence may be the cause of Tennessee fatal crash

A Tennessee community is in shock after learning of the deaths of two of its members as a result of a horrific car accident. The crash, which may have been the result of driver negligence, happened as a large group from a local church was returning home from a weekend retreat in a large van. The car crash ended the life of two victims and caused injury to at least nine others.

Social Security Disability and SSI for Kidney Disease

Individuals suffering from kidney disease may qualify for Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. A very important feature for claimant's qualifying for disability due to kidney or renal disease is that the usual two-year waiting period for Medicare eligibility is waived and coverage begins when the claimant becomes a beneficiary. The Social Security Administration recognizes the serious consequences of kidney disease and has created a "listing" describing how one can qualify due to renal disease.
