Can My Child Get Childhood SSI Due to Diabetes?

Children suffering from diabetes mellitus may qualify for childhood SSI benefits. Childhood SSI claims are evaluated differently than adult claims for Social Security Disability or SSI. The requirements are actually more stringent. If the child has a condition(s) that meets, medically equals or functionally equals the listing, she he is presumed to be disabled.  The Listing for Diabetes is 109.08:

Social Security Disability for Wounded Warriors

Applying for and persevering through the process to qualify for Social Security Disability or SSI benefits can be a frustrating, disappointing, and lengthy ordeal. The entire process from application to a hearing before an administrative law judge can often take up to 2 years. Veterans often face a double whammy of fighting the Social Security Administration for SSDI or SSI benefits and also the Department of Veterans Affairs for service-connected disability. At least in terms of Social Security, there is some relief for some veterans in that their cases can be expedited based on "wounded warrior" status.

Truck accident in East Tennessee leaves teenager dead

Around midday on a recent Monday in mid-January, the death of a teenager marked the first roadside fatality in Chattanooga. A boy of fifteen was killed in the Tennessee truck accident. His sister, aged 16, and a male teenager of 17 were both injured in the accident.

Childhood SSI and Ichthyosis or Dermatitis

Parents wonder if their child qualifies for Childhood SSI disability benefits for severe skin disorders such as Ichthyosis or Dermatitis. Childhood SSI claims are evaluated differently than adult claims for Social Security Disability or SSI. The requirements are actually more stringent. If the child is not working and has "severe" impairments, the Social Security Administration determines whether the claimant has an impairment or combination of impairments that meets or medically equals the criteria of a listing, or that functionally equals the listings. If the claimant has an impairment or combination of impairments that meets, medically equals or functionally equals the listings, and it has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months, he is presumed to be disabled. If not, the claimant is not disabled. There is no further question of vocational steps as with an adult disability claim.

Firefighters had to extricate the occupants of a turned-over vehicle recently. The car wreck was the result of a car chase between a male driver and the highway patrol. Three people sustained injuries in the accident that occurred in Tennessee on Jan. 10. The car chase took place during a roadblock launched by Tennessee authorities to check drivers' licenses.

Social Security Disability or SSI and "Medium" Level Work

Social Security Disability and SSI claims are decided upon what a person can still do - the Residual Functional Capacity - and whether that person can do his/her past relevant work - that work performed over the last 15 years. Recently, I looked at the Social Security Administration's definitions of sedentary and light. This week, I will look at how the SSA defines medium work. The SSA uses the same definition as the Dictionary of Occupational Titles when defining exertional levels of work. The SSA defines medium work as:

Car wreck in Tennessee leaves 1 dead and 3 injured

To lose loved ones in a car accident is a heartbreaking experience, and could be even more distressing if it happens on a holiday, such as New Year's Day. Three people were recently injured and one person was killed in a car wreck that occurred in Tennessee in the early hours on Jan. 1. There were no other vehicles involved in this accident.

Broken-down vehicle causes one of many car accidents in Tennessee

A broken-down vehicle can be the cause of severe accidents, especially if it is nighttime and the vehicle is black and without lights. One of the car accidents that deputies from Tennessee were recently called to happened on the evening of Christmas day. This collision left two dead and three injured.

Light Work and Social Security Disability

Social Security Disability and SSI claims are decided upon what a person can still do - the Residual Functional Capacity (RFC). Recently, I looked at the Social Security Administration's definition of a sedentary RFC.  This week, I will look at how the SSA's definition of light work.  The SSA defines light work as:
