Uninsured drivers make the roads more dangerous for everyone

Drivers across the state of Tennessee have been facing increased penalties for driving without insurance in the last 18 months, with consequences for uninsured drivers escalating from a $300 fine to the possibility of losing their vehicle. The Volunteer state has suffered from one of the lowest rates of insured drivers in the country for some time, including having the sixth lowest rate of insured drivers of any state just last year.

The last year's changes in legislation have been effective in greatly increasing the number of insured drivers on our roadways, but despite the harsh consequences for driving without insurance, there are still many drivers who choose to not drive insured. For those who are driving uninsured, perhaps they think that they simply cannot afford insurance. While this may seem true in the moment, they ought to consider how they are probably costing their future selves much more than the cost of insurance once they get caught. Is the cost of insurance worth more than the ability to drive at all?

Furthermore, many drivers may not be aware of how much risk they are placing onto other drivers when they choose to drive uninsured. Not only does a higher rate of uninsured drivers increase insurance premiums for those who do have insurance, but it also leaves victims of automobile accidents in the horrifying position of not knowing how their medical bills will be covered when there inevitably is an accident.

Uninsured drivers are a real threat to physical and financial safety, and one that is not to be taken lightly. If you have been involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist, the guidance of an experienced attorney can help you navigate this difficult season to protect your rights as you pursue justice.
