Hit and run accident leaves one pedestrian dead

A hit and run accident in Parkway Village in Memphis early last week left one pedestrian dead. The victim was not originally a pedestrian though. The victim, a 54-year-old male, had been involved in a separate, minor accident. When he exited his vehicle to exchange information with the other driver, he was struck by a third vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The vehicle that fled the scene, which was not involved in the original accident, was described as a black Infinity. The accident occurred around 5:30 in the morning.

The original accident involved the victim's older model Infiniti and a GMC Acadia. The driver of the Acadia struck the victim's vehicle. The Acadia driver remained at the scene of both accidents. When the two drivers were exchanging information the third vehicle hit the victim, pinning him between the two cars. The victim was then dragged down the street by the third vehicle.

The police said no arrests have been made in the case as the investigation is ongoing. Witnesses said that the fleeing vehicle was either a black or dark-colored Infinity driven by a male. The vehicle also had a male passenger in the front.

Hit and run accidents are dangerous and can be tragic. These accidents are common not only in Tennessee, but across the country. Drivers are legally required to remain at the scene of an accident, no matter the amount of damage done to their car or to the other car or person. Drivers who flee the scene of an accident can be charged with a litany of crimes and face thousands of dollars in fines and years in prison.
