Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) - Average Processing Times and Approval Rates at Hearings

One of the toughest things I have to do when explaining to people who are applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or whose application has been denied is the length of the process. I try to regularly provide an update on processing times and approval rates for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims at some hearing offices (ODAR), but it has been since January of 2017. Please remember that these statistics are only for claims pending at the hearing level or Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. The claims at a hearing office have already been through the Application and Reconsideration steps (typically 6-12 months of waiting already).

Social Security Disability (SSDI) - Update on SSA Budget Crisis and Hiring Freeze

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants and beneficiaries alike need to be aware of the drastic effects of budget cuts and hiring freezes on the Social Security Administration (SSA). I recently blogged about the temporary budget passed by Congress and this entry is to provide more information regarding the SSA's budget issues.  The SSA provides a vast array of services to Americans, including benefits for the disabled under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, and proper funding is imperative to all Americans.

How Long Until My Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Hearing?

People applying for and appealing a denied claim for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are rightfully concerned with the length of the process. I try to regularly provide an update on processing times and approval rates for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims at some hearing offices (ODAR). Please remember that these statistics are only for claims pending at the hearing level or Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) - Claimants are dying while waiting for hearings

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants are losing the battle with illness and injury falling through social safety net waiting for hearings on their disability claims. I periodically update the status of the average processing times at the hearing offices and the numbers have only increased over the last several years. Information recently released by the Social Security Administration (SSA) indicates that between September 26, 2015 and September 1, 2016, that 7,897 Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants died while their hearing requests were pending before hearing offices. Additionally, as of March of 2016, there were 1,090 claimants whose cases had received critical case status for terminal illness while awaiting hearings and they still waited an average of 189 days and that 63 of those claimants died while awaiting a hearing. The current national average processing time is 487 days which is up from 480 from the previous fiscal year.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) - Hearing Office Update

A major concern for my clients applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits is the time it takes to get their case decided once they reach the hearing level. I periodically try to provide an update on the processing times and approval rates for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims for some hearing offices (ODAR) in Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky. Please remember that these statistics are only for claims pending at the hearing level or Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. The claims at a hearing office have already been through the Application and Reconsideration steps (typically 6-12 months of waiting already).

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) - Hearing Wait Times and Approval Rates

An important and devastating issue for people seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is the time it takes to get their case decided once they reach the hearing level. I have been a bit late on providing an update on this issue. My last entry was in April of 2016. The following is the most current statistics on the processing times and approval rates for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims for some hearing offices in Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky. Please remember that these statistics are only for claims pending at the hearing level or Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. Hearing Times Continue Increasing - Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

I often write about how long it takes for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) claims to wind through the bureaucracy to completion and how often claims are denied.  I do this partially to dispel common myths that exist such as it easy to get disability benefits and everyone gets approved.  In September, I looked at why such a backlog exists for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and SSI claims, but this week I will yet again examine just how bad the actual backlog has become nationally and in local hearing offices.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) - Why the Backlog?

On August, 29, 2015, I wrote about waiting times and approval rates for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) at the hearing level. I try to blog on this subject every month or two because these statistics are so important to people waiting for their Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or SSI to be heard at a local hearing office. Today, I will look at some information behind the statistics in an effort to figure out why the processing times continue to increase at the hearing office or better known as the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR).
