During the early hours of a recent Wednesday morning, an accident between a sedan and a tractor-trailer lefts two males dead and one injured. The truck accident happened along a highway in Tennessee when the westbound sedan driven by 41-year-old male crossed over the highway into the eastbound lanes. The sedan hit an oncoming tractor-trailer, causing devastating injuries for at least two of the three people involved.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to careen off of the road entirely. The male passenger who was traveling in the sedan was declared dead at the truck accident scene. Both drivers of the respective vehicles had to be transported to a hospital in the area due to their injuries. The 41-year-old driver of the sedan passed away in the hospital. State troopers suspect that alcohol and drugs may have been involved.
Should it be proven that alcohol and drugs were responsible or significantly contributed to the accident, the victims or their surviving families may elect to pursue civil claims against the alleged negligent driver in order to recoup damages. In Tennessee, a victim of a truck accident who suffered serious injuries may initiate personal injury claims. The legal estate of the deceased passenger has the right to pursue a wrongful death suit.
Successfully litigated personal injury claims by the victim of a truck accident provide for the reimbursement of any related monetary damages. Monetary damages awarded from a successful claim could help the victim better cope with medical bills, rehabilitation costs and any lost wages due to missing time from work. Furthermore, a wrongful death claim may assist the family of the deceased to better cope with the unexpected expenses, such as funeral and burial costs.
