Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) – 2016 Numbers

| Dec 22, 2015 | Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) |

Recently it was discussed that there will be no cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 2016 for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and SSI beneficiaries. The COLA is important because it also sets other Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and SSI-related amounts for 2016. For 2016 the following are amounts to remember:

  • Maximum taxable earnings – $118,500.00

  • Earnings required for quarter of coverage – $1,260.00

  • Retirement earnings test exempt amounts – $41,880.00 per year or $3,490.00 per month

  • Substantial gainful activity threshold for non-blind – $1,130.00 per month

Substantial gainful activity threshold for the blind – $1,820.00 per month

  • Trial work period threshold – $810.00 per month

  • SSI (Individual) – $733.00 per month

SSI (Couple) – $1,100.00 per month
