Tennessee’s Social Security Disability approval rates among lowest in nation

According to a recent news story, Tennessee is among the 16 states with the lowest ratings. Tennessee’s disability approval claim rate is at 37.9%, which is similar to Georgia and Mississippi.

One reason for Tennessee’s low rate is related to the Social Security Administration’s stringent standards for SSD eligibility. Applicants must have their conditions documented by medical professionals. The applicant must provide a level of detail that satisfies Social Security and that includes laboratory results, documentation of doctor’s visit(s), and a written diagnosis. Based on that, Social Security will need to decide on the applicant’s ability to perform specific tasks on the job, if there are any. Subsequently, the applicant will need to be examined by an independent Social Security examiner. At that point, the application is often denied and the appeal process begins.
