Car accidents due to dangerous roads -- where lies the fault?

Motor vehicle accidents may leave the drivers of the vehicles second guessing themselves, wondering if perhaps they were careless. While driver negligence or recklessness are often the cause of car accidents, dangerous roadways are also responsible for a significant number of collisions. Tennessee government road agencies are obliged to ensure that road designs are safe and the roadways maintained properly. This is, however, not always the case.

What Is Uninsured Motorist Coverage & Why Should I Have It?

Uninsured motorist coverage is a provision available in automobile insurance policies that protects you if you are in an accident with another driver who is uninsured or underinsured.  Although typically called "uninsured motorist coverage" it also includes a subcategory of "underinsured motorist coverage" when the at-fault driver does have liability insurance, but the limits are too low to cover all of the damages incurred by you.  The Insurance Research Council estimates that one out of every seven drivers in the United States is currently insured.  In fact, according to a story carried by WBIR on June 30, 2015, one out of every five drivers in Tennessee lacks liability insurance.  As a result, the Tennessee legislature passed a new law requiring stiffer penalties for drivers that lack proper basic liability insurance.  However, stiffer penalties do not help protect the law-abiding driver who unfortunately has an accident with someone not carrying proper insurance.

Car wreck involving 5 cars kills 2

An accident on one of Tennessee's major highways led to the death of two people, while four more people suffered injuries. The car wreck involved five vehicles. The highway had to be closed for at least three miles for a period of time after the accident.

Car wreck results in 2 fatalities

Two Tennessee families had to face the tragic deaths of family members after two people died in a recent fatal accident in the central part of the state. The car wreck happened when the driver of a pickup truck crossed over the middle of the road into oncoming traffic. The 65-year-old driver then hit an SUV. A 19-year-old female was driving the SUV.

Tennessee family involved in car wreck, 1 dead, 2 injured

Lives can be lost in the blink of an eye on Tennessee roads. When a loved one is killed in a car wreck, the emotional and financial impact on the surviving family members can last for a long time. Alcoa police recently reported on an accident that claimed the life of one person and sent two of his family members to the hospital.

The usefulness of event data recorders in car accidents

An event data recorder (EDR) is what consumers know as the "black boxes" generally referred to in airplane accidents. What many people may not know is that approximately 91.6% of new passenger vehicles manufactured since 2006 already have EDRs installed. The types of data recorded by EDRs have developed a lot since the modules were first implemented. Today, EDRs may be used to add to and corroborate findings from traditional investigations into car accidents in Tennessee.

Motorcycle versus car accidents -- extra vigilance is needed

During this time of year in Tennessee, the cooler weather is ideal for motorcyclists to take out their bikes. Unfortunately, car accidents involving motorcycles are all too common. In Montgomery County, 121 accidents involving motorcycles have been reported so far this year. Six people died in these accidents.

8 fatal car accidents -- why have traffic authorities not acted?

A fatal accident on Interstate 440 on Aug. 19 has some asking questions about the lack of action by Tennessee traffic authorities because this incident is apparently one of many over the past four years. According to a recent report, the individual who recently lost his life is said to be the eighth victim killed on this stretch of road. The family members of at least one of the eight victims wants to know why the relevant authorities have not placed barriers on this dangerous section of the interstate to help prevent further car accidents.
