5-year-old thought to be killed in car wreck, then revived

What was at first an absolute tragedy turned into hope for a Tennessee family. Their son, just 5 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene of a car wreck. Fortunately, someone decided not to give up on the boy and continued trying to save him. The resuscitation efforts were rewarded and he was revived.

The accident happened on a recent Thursday in July. Traffic authorities report that a 57-year-old driver struck a minivan while trying to change lanes. The van in the other lane was struck on the left side. This caused the driver to lose control. The van left the road, entered a ditch, overturning and hitting a number of trees.

There were five people traveling in the van – two adults and three children, aged 9, 5 and 2. The injured boy is now being treated for his injuries at a medical center in the near vicinity. The van driver was also injured, but it is not clear how serious the injuries were. Fortunately no one else was hurt.

It is unclear if the 57-year-old driver was under the influence of drugs, but he is facing charges of improper passing and failure to show due care. Due to his apparent negligence, a 5-year-old nearly died. The family of the seriously injured boy may choose to file a personal injury claim against the van driver who is believed to have caused the car wreck. A Tennessee civil court may award financial damages in a successfully litigated claim, which may assist in meeting the unexpected financial demands the accident has caused.
