Knoxville pedestrian injured in hit-and-run accident

When a car accident involves a pedestrian, it can often lead to serious injury or death. Tennessee state laws require drivers to be vigilant of pedestrians for that very reason. Motor vehicle operators must exercise reasonable care to avoid a car accident, and when one occurs, the driver must stop and immediately report the incident.

Just after 2 p.m., on September 7, a 57-year-old Knoxville man was injured as he tried to cross Broadway near Cecil Avenue. He was walking with another person. Police did not report whether the other person was injured. A Dodge Ram pickup truck turned onto Broadway and struck the man. Police said he then fled the scene of the accident. After searching for the suspect car, police found the driver heading northbound on Broadway in his pickup truck. The 27-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to report an accident.

The pedestrian was hospitalized for his injuries, though he is expected to survive. He may be left to deal with immediate and future medical expenses as a result of the car accident. As with any victim injured as a result of the negligent actions of another, the man is entitled to pursue a claim against the driver for personal injuries and pain and suffering.
