Car wreck results in 2 fatalities

Two Tennessee families had to face the tragic deaths of family members after two people died in a recent fatal accident in the central part of the state. The car wreck happened when the driver of a pickup truck crossed over the middle of the road into oncoming traffic. The 65-year-old driver then hit an SUV. A 19-year-old female was driving the SUV.

The accident happened on a recent Sunday afternoon in late October at approximately 4:00 p.m. Emergency workers could do nothing for either of the drivers, and they both died at the accident scene. A 19-year-old male passenger traveling in the SUV was injured. He was transported to a nearby medical center. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The accident is currently under investigation. Law enforcement authorities consider the main cause of the accident to be the failure of the pickup-truck driver to remain in his lane. At this time, there is no indication that other factors, such as drugs, alcohol or mechanical failures, played any role in the accident.

Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the family of the deceased 19-year-old female may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the other driver’s estate. A personal injury claim may also be appropriate should the injuries of the 19-year-old passenger be of a serious nature. Damages may be awarded by a Tennessee court to the victims and their families if the evidence proves that negligent driving by the pickup-truck driver was the root cause of the car wreck.
